Titbits of Trust
Today I was having a chat with my three friends, and as we discussed Galatians, we found ourselves veering off into another topic – trust in God. We all unanimously agreed on one thing – trusting God in the hard times is hard. When everything collapses around you, whispering a prayer to someone who watches all this happen to you is not easy.
I thought about this topic later and came up with a few titbits of trust for all of us to fall back on when facing hard times. Take a look!
- He will provide!
It doesn’t matter how deep in the mire you’re in; he will always provide what you need at that very moment.
2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (NIV)
Whatever you need right now, just ask for it and believe that he will provide. God waits eagerly for us to call on him when we need help with our spiritual life and in other areas of concern to us.
The verse below reminds me how much he cares for me:
Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (NIV)
- He walks with you – all the time!
Isaiah 30:21 ‘Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.’ (NLT)
For you to hear God’s voice close by, he must be beside or behind you, right? It is so encouraging to know that when I face a cliff or valley, he goes with me. The best part is – God doesn’t just walk alongside me- he protects me as well!
Isaiah 43:2 “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (NLT)
Lord, help me to remember that you are always right beside me, day and night, and in the happy and sad times.
- He encourages you!
Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (NLT)
These words bring tears to my eyes, as the Lord’s words of encouragement are so precious. He talks about walking with me, strengthening and helping me when I am weak, and holding me up when I can not stand on my own.
Isaiah 40:29 “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” (NLT)
Aren’t these words encouraging? Do they give you peace as you read them? Take heart, God’s loving presence is right there with you.
Psalm 23:4 “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (NLT)
- His plans for you are the best!
Psalm 139:16 “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” (NLT)
Even before you were born, God had plotted the ‘graph’ of your life. He knew every twist and turn that your life would take as he formed you in your mother’s womb. There is, therefore, nothing that happens to you that takes him by surprise!
Though some of the experiences we go through are not pleasant, God allows them for a reason. Over time, I am slowly learning that focusing on God’s overall plan for my life keeps me looking to him, and not at my present situation.
Everyone knows this verse, right?
Jeremiah 29:11 ‘” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”‘(NIV)
Do you believe that his plans for you are good plans, plans that were crafted with your welfare in mind, to give you a glorious future? Well. God says so in his word, so believe it!
Let me conclude by saying that God allows rough seasons to come along to make us stronger, and to ‘refine’ our faith. I hope the titbits of trust I have shared will be of help and encouragement to you the next time you go through a low season. One more verse, though:
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! (NLT)
Be encouraged, dear one, God is with you. Trust in him.
