A little peek at what God’s strength brings into our lives…
This week I had a challenging experience – one in which I needed to be reminded of God’s strength. This verse came to mind;
2 Corinthians 12:9a ‘And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”’ (NKJV)
Encouraging words, right? I, however, asked myself – what does God’s strength really mean to me? As always, I looked into his word, and this is what I came up with!
- Strength and Defence go together!
Exodus 15:2 “The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.” (NIV)
Not only is God our strength, he is also our defender! He gives us the power to face life and its crazy situations and defends us when we need it. Think of this situation – you have a boss who is threatening to sack you based on flimsy accusations that he has presented to his superiors. Who can give you the strength to handle this situation, and defend you in the process? God! His strength comes with an added advantage – a shield (hedge) of defence around you!
- Strength and Power go together!
Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”(NIV)
Friends, do you really know how powerful God is? He created the heavens and the earth with just one word. He tells the wind where to go. The oceans are a droplet in his hand. He is more powerful than the human mind could ever understand.
What does this mean for us? I believe that when we ask for God’s strength, we are also asking for his power to work miracles in our lives. The challenge we all have, however, is that we limit the magnitude of this power. My question is, if we all believed that God truly has the power to work all things out for us, would he have any reason not to do so?
- Strength and Hope go together!
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (NIV)
Have you ever met a person who is feeling hopeless and despondent, with lifeless eyes and a sad, hopeless face? Have you ever felt like that? Now the thing is, the human heart yearns to hope and believe in something – it doesn’t matter what it is – that’s just the way we were created
Where am I going with this? Well, since we are created to hope in something or someone, why not hope in God, the only person who is unchangeable, faithful and loving. Hope in God always results in a renewed zeal for life. God recognizes that you have chosen to put your hope in him and trust him completely, and he immediately gives you a dose of strength to encourage you further!
Friends, if you are feeling hopeless and despondent right now, please put your hope in God. As you can see from the verses above, you will find your strength return, and suddenly you will be able to tackle that seemingly insurmountable challenge.
- Strength comes with Courage!
Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NIV)
Now – imagine you decide to hope in God, and he gives you strength, defends you, and gives you power. Will you still be afraid? No!! The creator of the universe has given you everything you need to do what he asks you to do!
I suspect I was preaching to myself in this post. I needed a reminder about God’s strength, and all that comes along with it! I hope this post encourages you and reminds you that his strength is always available to you – it is all you need!
1 Chronicles 16:11 “Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” (NIV)
