A Position of Faith

Lord, I don’t need your help on this one. I can do this on my own.

Ping!

A light bulb went off in my head.

I had finally figured out how to solve the problem.

I had done it, without God’s help.

No need to bother God, I thought.

No need to take a position of faith.

Interesting how we choose not to ‘bother’ God with the things that are important to Him…

Experience. Wisdom. Intellect. Gut feeling.

That’s all I need to figure things out in my life.

Career choices?

I got that – my CV and skills are all I need.

Where to live?

My pocket can handle that.

Where to go to church?

My circle of friends will handle that too!

I don’t need to bother God with all this stuff.

I have everything under control.

I don’t need to take a position of faith!

Interesting how we don’t understand how the so-called little things are integral to God’s calling in our lives.

2 am.

I can’t sleep.

For some reason, none of the things I was so sure would work out have failed.

The only thing I am sure of,

Is that the dripping tap keeping me company will be fixed tomorrow.

Plop, plop, plop.

The annoying droplet sounds remind me,

That even a dripping tap is out of my control,

Because I don’t know how to fix it!

That perhaps it is time to take a position of faith,

And to trust God.

But is it worth it?

The road of faith is one that is difficult, narrow, and unpopular. That’s why many of us opt not to choose it.

Lord, let’s talk about this position of faith.

First of all, nobody takes that route these days.

It’s unfashionable. It’s old school.

Having faith in You means that I have no faith in myself,

And that I am not enough.

Yet this world celebrates those who believe that they are enough.

Lord, what do I do?

I have reached the end of myself,

But I do not want to admit that I need to put my faith in you.

I don’t want to take a position of faith.

Let’s see how the Lord responds to this…

My child, I know that you are under pressure to conform.

You want to fit in.

You want to appear like you have it all together.

But you don’t.

Without me, you can do nothing.

Without me all your efforts are futile.

Because you and I have a relationship,

We have to do everything together.

If we use separate paths,

Things will fall apart because the foundation is not solid.

So you see, my child,

You need to take a position of faith.

Once again I surrender to God and take the position of faith. I choose to believe in God, to trust Him to provide for me, and to handle anything that governs me.

Here I am, several days after taking a position of faith.

I am at peace. Perfect peace.

I have no worries. The Lord has handled them.

I no longer second-guess God,

I obey Him instead.

I no longer believe that I am enough,

Because there is nothing I can do without Him.

I have taken a position of faith – in God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (ESV)

  1. Great reminder…what does God say…how do we team up with God…how would He do this better than I….what if we did it with God….

This is a reminder to us that with God all things are possible and therefore we need Him in order to accomplish what we need to do. We cannot manage on our own whatsoever. He is our all in all and completely helpless without Him. Thanks for insight Alison. God bless.

  2. Beautiful reminder. Coincidentally, our family devotion this week centred on trusting God even when it doesn’t make sense and our memory verse was Prov 3:5-6! Thank you for sharing your faith walk.
