Funny how we have such short memories when it comes to remembering the things God has done for us…
Forgetting.
We all do that.
As soon as the trial is over,
And we make it through,
We forget.
And happily move on with our lives.
Don’t ever forget what He has done.
We forget how we cried out to the Lord,
Desperately asking for His help.
And then He answered,
And everything was sorted out.
The pain goes,
The scars heal,
And we forget.
Don’t ever forget what He has done.
The Israelites forgot.
They cried out for water in the desert,
And God provided.
They cried out for food,
And the Lord sent manna.
They cried out for meat,
And the Lord sent quails.
Then they forgot,
They became ungrateful,
And they took things for granted.
They complained and complained,
Making life difficult for their leader Moses.
God sent them their just reward,
And they spent years going round and round in the wilderness,
Until every last member of that generation had passed on.
Don’t ever forget what He has done.
What makes me forget what He has done?
Is it the allures of this life?
That subtly lure me away from my focus on God?
Life is for living, they say,
So as soon as God sorts your problem,
Continue living your life,
And forget all that God has done for you.
That could be it…
Or maybe I feel like I deserve His help,
Like He owes me because I am His child.
An “I believe in You so You sort me out” kind of thing.
Don’t ever forget what He has done.
I am at that place where I need His help again,
So I need to remind myself what He has done in the past.
He helped me to graduate from university.
He settled me in my career when everyone else said it would not work.
He gave me a child when I had given up hope.
He healed me.
He provided for my family.
He held my hand when I got the autism diagnosis.
He spared me from danger countless times.
He returned to me things that were lost and forgotten.
He made a way in the darkness when I could not see the way out.
The list is endless.
Don’t ever forget what He has done.
There is one more thing I must never forget, though.
God’s gift of salvation.
If He had not sought me out, I would never have known what salvation is all about.
If He had not convicted me and turned my heart towards Him,
I would be lost.
I am so grateful to Him for giving me salvation,
Even when I did not deserve it.
Have you received this precious gift?
Have you responded to that quiet voice in your heart?
If you have, don’t ever forget what this gift means to you, and to God.
Don’t ever forget what it cost Him to give you that gift.
If you haven’t responded to that voice,
Maybe now is the right time to do so.
Respond to Him today, and enter into sweet fellowship with your Creator.
Most importantly,
Don’t ever forget what He has done.
Psalm 103:2 “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” (NLT)
